He's finally better!!
So our long week continued through the weekend and on to Monday and Tuesday. Cole went back to the doctor Tuesday as he decided over the weekend that he would no longer eat or drink water. We were afraid he was getting dehydrated. Monday night we even got his medicine syringe out and forced fluids into his mouth. Cole was not very happy about this. One ounce and 15 minutes later we gave up. Of course we checked his urine (when he would actually pee) and he had moderate ketones again. Great kiddo, that’s why he needs to drink. Tuesday I told Robert he should probably take him back to the doctor as he also developed a lovely case of diarrhea and had a rash all over his back, stomach and face.
Well doctor said that along with the herpangina he had enterovirus which was causing the rash and the upset stomach. Plus side was the sores in his mouth were gone!!
Wednesday we took him back to daycare… you know the germ fest of a place where he got sick to begin with. I told the director at daycare that Cole had gotten rabies from the kid that bit him on Wednesday. She laughed and I told her I was kidding of course, that he had herpangina. She said that was a horrible name and it sounded like Cole had an STD. I laughed and told her that I said the exact same thing.
Well today is Thursday, I was talking to my sister saying that Cole seemed much better but was still not eating like normal. After the words came out of my mouth I had to correct myself and tell Stacy what I meant was “he was eating like a normal 1 year old, just not normal for Cole.”
As our week comes to an end I am thankful that Cole is better and we avoided a trip to the ER. I am also thankful that we are not having to wake up every 2 to 4 hours to check Cole. I know Cole is happy about that. Not only is it less finger pokes for Cole but he loves his sleep too. He hates us waking him up. On the negative side, the week is coming to an end which means I am about to go to crazy town with my summer schedule. Working nights is a pain in the butt with a normal healthy toddler, but throw in a diabetic toddler and it’s just crazy. Here is to hoping for all of us that Cole does not get sick again for the rest of the summer.
